Lifeguard Positions at Rutherford Area Swim Club
Lifeguards at Rutherford Area Swim Club (RFD) are responsible for ensuring the safety, enjoyment, and overall experience of our members and guests. This role requires attentiveness, professionalism, and the ability to respond effectively in both routine and emergency situations.
Responsibilities
• Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area and enforce all rules and regulations
• Identify potential hazards and ensure a safe environment for all patrons
• Perform water rescues and respond to emergencies, including first aid and CPR
• Monitor swimmer activity and promote safe behavior in and around the pool
• Provide friendly, professional customer service to members and guests
• Assist with light facility upkeep and routine daily tasks
• Work collaboratively as part of the RFD team
Position Types
• Full-Time Lifeguards: Typically 20+ hours per week with consistent scheduling
• Part-Time Lifeguards: Typically under 20 hours per week
• Substitute Lifeguards: Scheduled as needed to support staffing coverage

Certification Requirements
All lifeguards must hold current lifeguard, CPR/AED, and First Aid certifications aligned with American Red Cross standards or another RFD-approved equivalent.
Certifications must include in-person skills evaluation. Certifications that rely primarily on online training or employer-based skills verification (including those from the American Lifeguard Association) are not accepted.
Minimum Requirements
• Must be at least 15 years old (with a valid work permit)
• Ability to pass required swim and skills evaluations
• Strong communication skills and ability to remain calm under pressure
